Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need a private tutor?

Experience has found that private tuition gives students better grades, builds confidence and allows for more career opportunities.

With ever-growing class-sizes, teachers are not always able to give one-to-one support if a student is falling behind or struggling to understand a concept.

A tutor will spend the time trying to understand your child’s abilities and personality, and teach them accordingly.

It may be a particular area that your child is struggling with, or a whole subject such as Maths that they just can’t seem to grasp.

A child may find that if the problem is explained to him/her in a different way, it suddenly clicks.

Here are a few more reasons why one-to-one tuition is more beneficial for your child: Benefits of Private Tutoring

How does it work?

Once you get in touch, we will discuss your child’s needs and learning objectives with you, and your expectations from tutoring as well as pricing. We can then match you with once of our high quality tutors.

You will have the chance to speak to the tutor we select before committing to any lessons.

Once you are happy to proceed, we will sign you up on our website. You will have full access to our tutoring portal where you can book lessons, make payments, add feedback and view your child’s progress through tutor reports.

Payment for the lesson is made online once the lesson is complete.

We are here to answer any questions you may have and will check in with you after your first lesson to make sure you are happy with your tutor.

What ages does Top Class Tutor provide tutors for?

We provide tutors for students aged 5-18 years, which covers Key Stages 1,2,3 GCSE, BTEC and A-Level.

What subjects does Top Class Tutor provide tutors for?

We are still adding new tutors everyday in a range of subjects. Our tutors cover the most in demand subjects of Maths, English and Sciences but we are constantly more subjects according to demand. If there is a subject you would like us to offer, please let us know!

How much does it cost?

The price of a lesson varies depending on the experience your tutor has and on the subject and level required. Typically, the price of a lesson varies from £25-£45, but may be more for A-Level subjects with an experienced tutor.

The fee you pay is all inclusive and there are no hidden extras: tutor travel expenses and our fee are all included.

How many lessons do you recommend?

This depends on each individual need, which we can discuss with you and your child. We require an initial lesson commitment of 6 lessons as we believe this is the best way for your child to obtain maximum benefits from private tutoring. The tutor and student need time to build up a relationship and this also allows the tutor to identify specific problem areas.

You only pay for the lesson once it is complete.

How are lessons charged?

Lessons are charged on a lesson-by-lesson basis and you will be invoiced once a lesson is complete.

We ask that all payments are made through our online system. This way you can easily keep track of payments you have made and any outstanding charges.

What safety checks do you provide on tutors?

We take safeguarding very seriously and we make sure that all of our tutors are DBS-checked. Unlike teachers, who are required by law to have an enhanced DBS check, the UK Government does not require tutors to undergo a DBS check. However, we require all of our tutors to undertake an enhanced DBS check with a ‘Children’s Barred List’ check to provide you with reassurance and peace of mind.

We also interview each tutor face-to face and request an up-to-date CV and two references from the tutor before they can become registered with us.

Where do Top Class Tutor fees go?

The small fee that we take is an introduction fee for our services of finding and vetting high quality, local tutors and assessing their suitability for your child.

It also helps to pay for the platform to help you manage your lessons and tutors online, and to streamline payments in one place.
